Association of age with left ventricular volumes, ejection fraction and concentricity: the Framingham heart study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Left ventricular (LV) parameters may vary with aging, but concomitant disease can obscure relationships between age and LV size, mass and function. CMR provides reproducible measures of LV volumes, mass, and ejection fraction (EF), but manual analyses are time consuming. Automated border detection (ABD) methods may decrease analytical burden. We sought to examine the effect of greater age on LV volumes, mass, EF and concentricity in a large cohort of healthy adults free of clinical cardiovascular disease and hypertension using ABDassisted methods.

The Correlation between Left and Right Ventricular Ejection Fractions in Patients with Ischemic Heart Disease, Documented by Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Introduction: The correlation between right and left ventricular ejection fractions (RVEF and LVEF, respectively) has been studied in only a small number of patients with a marked decrease in RVEF and LVEF. The aim of the present study was to compare LVEF and RVEF in patients with ischemic heart disease. RVEF and LVEF were measured by Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) imaging. Materials a...
متن کاملDoppler-Derived Myocardial Performance Index in Healthy Children in Shiraz
Background: Assessment of myocardial function is essential in heart disease, but in regard to systolic and diastolic functions such evaluation has limitation. Ejection fraction is difficult to assess in abnormally-shaped ventricles, and diastolic inflow velocity pattern may be fused because of tachycardia. Objective: A myocardial performance index (MPI) or Tei index has been developed for adult...
متن کاملEvaluation of heart disease in patients with beta-thalessemia major referred to Shahid Madanni Hospital in Khorram Abad in 2003
Background: Patients with beta-thalessemia major present with severe anemia and need continous transfusion therapy. An important complication of beta-thalessemia major is iron deposition in cardiac tissue, resulting in fibrosis and dysfunction. Cardiac involvement is the major cause of death in beta-thalessemia major. The purpose of this study was to assess cardiac disease patients with bet...
متن کاملThe Relation between Left Ventricular Function and Serum Ferritin in Major Β-Thalassemia
Abstract Objective Cardiac dysfunction is a major cause of death in patients with beta thalassemia. In these patients, repeated blood transfusion, ineffective erythropoiesis and increased gastrointestinal iron absorption lead to iron overload in the body and this induced heart failure. Left ventricular ejection fraction was measured in major beta thalassemia (β-Th) patients to detect the rela...
متن کاملAssociation of cystatin C with left ventricular structure and function: the Dallas Heart Study.
BACKGROUND Cystatin C, a novel marker of renal function, has been associated with heart failure and cardiovascular mortality in older individuals. We tested the hypothesis that cystatin C is associated with preclinical cardiac structural and functional abnormalities in a younger population-based sample. METHODS AND RESULTS The study included participants in the Dallas Heart Study (ages 30 to ...
